My name is Sara.
People have a lot of trouble pronouncing my name – Sara. The “A”s are both soft as in “ah.” Worse, when you add my soft voice to Sara, it sometimes sounds like, Star. I was shy about my name as a kid and when I finally asserted myself in High School one of my friends asked me if I’d changed my name. In the 1980’s people thought I was called Starlight. Later, they thought I was emulating a certain Jedi Knight as Starwalker. Nope…none of that. I’m just me.
I’m a freelance artist, writer, and graphic designer. People wonder at that. How can I be so many things all at once? I like to think that I got that best of my parents – one, a playwright and the other, a painter. Perhaps that is so, but I have put in a lot of years buffing up those innate talents. Although my college didn’t have Minors, I took enough credits in Fine Art that I would have been a Fine Art Minor if they’d had them. In graduate school I did have a Minor in Scientific Illustration. I got my Master’s Degree in 1988 and have been working as a freelancer ever since. I’ve published three children’s books, dozens of works of non-fiction, two webcomics, and am publishing an illustrated science fiction novelette in 2017.
I like helping clients get the design or illustration they want. I’ve been designing websites since the old days of the 1990’s. I specialize in WordPress blog and site design as it allows clients with little programming savvy to update their own websites after I leave the picture.
You’ll notice that I also specialize in pet portraits. It’s rewarding work. Seeing happy tears in a client’s eyes when they receive their portrait is wonderful. The historic buildings and family home portraits are also rewarding but differently. I live in a small Craftsman bungalow in a town filled with historic homes. A portrait of a historic or family home is a wonderful way to keep old, happy memories alive.
People tend to be as shy about asking for design help. Please don’t be afraid to ask questions about your project. I’ve worked with so many clients and on such a wide variety of projects that I’m sure I can help you create what you’re looking for.
Thanks for stopping by.
