Flying Pony Studios is the studio site of artist, Sara Light-Waller. It is the companion site to Lucina Press, which specializes in illustrated speculative & pulp fiction. Together, they create a whole pulp experience for pulp fans.

Sara’s illustration career began in the late 1980’s after achieving her Masters Degree in Anthropology with a minor in Scientific Illustration from the University of Arizona. Soon thereafter she formed Flying Pony Studios and began working as an illustrator. Since that time she has worked for publishing companies small and large, as well as numerous other companies and individuals. Her artwork has been seen on the covers of magazines, in museum collections, and in wall-size murals. She has also won awards in several national contests.

Her specialty is the pulp style of the 1920’s-1940’s. Through painstaking study she has learned to create pulp art which feels vintage even when the subject matter is more modern.

She continues to take commissions for book illustrations and cover paintings, while also pursuing her own fine art pieces.
